New Short Track ONLY Rink

At the Oval they finished putting in the new pad system that will allow the pads to always stay put. All the teams are in town for the World Cup in the 17th, so it's cool to see it in use! Last night I went to photograph some club short track practice and afterward stopped by the new pads...

Team Israel was out practicing, dazzling my eyes with their blue skins against the blue pads and blue logo out at center ice. I like blue.

The pads are huge! When standing next to them, they come up right below my shoulders (I am 5'4") and I can't reach the other side when stretching my arm across.

And apparently figure skating will also be done on this ice, which between them and hockey, they are fine! Hockey gets the other ice sheet. No more putting pads out or taking them off... which also means no more upper body workout.
