Gain

Recently I've heard a few people say things that didn't sit to well. I have a huge train of thoughts going on right now. So I'm just going to dive straight in. How much more convenient is it to think about what going wrong. It's easier. It's right there with you all the time. I believe the things that are able to get you down follow you around and do everything possible to get your attention. Misery loves company.

A few years ago, I was living in Las Vegas. I was a regular at Cashmen Field - home of the Las Vegas 51's AAA Baseball team. My first game I attended, I looked for who was wearing the #7 jersey... it was a guy named Cody Ross. He was an outfielder. He soon became my favorite to watch. The season ticket holders that I sat amongst at the games all said that he was a great guy. He was always smiling and came off as a nice guy. He was going back and forth between the 51s and Dodgers, so one day I wanted to know what was up with him and googled him. I found an article and read just a little of it after seeing it wasn't what I was looking for. The bit that I did read has stuck with me.

I don't remember it word for word, but he was talking about how when he started playing baseball he was going through tough times. Lots of slumps. He was just going out to the field, doing what he had to do then sitting down. He said that he had a - what do I have to lose - attitude. That wasn't getting him anywhere. He wasn't gaining anything. One day that all changed what he got the attitude of - what do I have to gain - He stopped looking at life in a negative/ flat line perspective, and started to see all that he could accomplish...

Cody is still one of my favorite players. He has been playing for the Florida Marlins as a regular for a few seasons. I am the happy owner of his game worn/autographed jersey, a few signed bats, balls & paper products. The day Cody decided to look at the positive side of life, he didn't become a pro. He suffered through years of injuries, going back and forth between the majors, minors and trades.

Figure out what you want and live it. Whatever it is you want in life, pretend like you are already there. See yourself on top of that mountain. Feel the weight of the Olympic medals around your neck. If you want to be a champion, act like one. Live it.

I was going to say the same thing. I was expecting you to be down in the dumps, but what I got was a "pick-me-up." Thanks. I think we all get stuck in a rut sometimes, and it can be hard to see ourselves outside of the rut.

Hi Teri,

Nice article. It's great to hear about the good experiences you had watching Cody in NV. If it's alright with you, I'll make a link to this post from codyross.org.

Thanks.

I totally agree! I know people that get so down and miserable without even trying to be happy, and it drives me crazy! As Mrs. McHenry always says- Attitude is Everything!
